{"id":10035,"date":"2014-08-07T16:53:59","date_gmt":"2014-08-07T20:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/?p=10035"},"modified":"2026-04-10T15:24:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T19:24:17","slug":"footsteps-of-francis-in-pictures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/footsteps-of-francis-in-pictures\/","title":{"rendered":"Footsteps of Francis in Pictures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During our journey to the Holy Land with <a href=\"http:\/\/cwl.ca\/\">Catholic Women\u2019s League of Canada<\/a> members in July, we visited some places that Pope Francis had visited during his <a href=\"http:\/\/saltandlighttv.org\/blog\/apostolic\/photo-story-of-pope-francis-historic-pilgrimage-to-the-holy-land\">pastoral visit to the Holy Land from 24-26 May 2014<\/a>. It was special to follow in his footsteps, praying where he prayed and hearing the stories of people who had encountered him. I thought I\u2019d give you a taste of it through pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jordan River<\/strong>: We visited the Baptism site on the Israeli side of the Jordan River, where <a href=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/at-river-jordan-pope-meets-suffering-speaks-against-arms-trade\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pope Francis prayed and met with refugees, the sick and disabled<\/a>. At this place, we renewed our baptismal vows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BethlehemWall.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bethlehem:<\/strong> His Holiness Francis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/the-pope\/10855049\/Pope-prays-at-Israeli-wall-in-unprecedented-gesture.html\">stopped spontaneously at the wall<\/a> separating Israel and Palestine and silently prayed. We also took a moment to pray at this spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/HolySepulchre.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Church of the Holy Sepulchre:<\/strong> <a href=\"\/default.aspx?ID=2284&amp;pagetypeID=8&amp;sitecode=SSSS&amp;pageno=1\">Pope Francis met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew<\/a> on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the meeting in Jerusalem between Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras, their predecessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/WesternWall.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Western Wall:<\/strong> Pope Francis prayerfully placed intentions in the wall and embraced his Argentinian friends, Jewish Rabbi Abraham Skorka and Muslim leader Omar Abboud. We also offered our prayer intentions here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/YadVashem.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yad Vashem:<\/strong> We visited the Hall of Remembrance where the <a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/speeches\/2014\/may\/documents\/papa-francesco_20140526_terra-santa-memoriale-yad-vashem.html\">pope gave an impassioned speech<\/a> which began with \u201cAdam, where are you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/UpperRoom.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upper Room:<\/strong> Before leaving the Holy Land, <a href=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/francis-thanks-religious-for-their-presence-in-holy-land\/\" target=\"_blank\">His Holiness celebrated Mass in the Upper Room<\/a>.
