{"id":12928,"date":"2022-07-26T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-26T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/?p=12928"},"modified":"2024-06-28T00:41:33","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T04:41:33","slug":"cnewa-rushes-aid-to-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/cnewa-rushes-aid-to-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"CNEWA Rushes Aid to Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CNEWA has distributed <strong>close to 5 million \u0421AD<\/strong> in emergency aid for Ukrainians in need as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Relief efforts of Caritas Ukraine<\/strong> in Chernihiv, Odesa, Chernivtsi, Sambir-Drohobych, Kramatorsk, Kyiv, Ternopil and Zaporizhzhia, including aid convoys, shelters for the displaced, mother and child receiving centres, soup kitchens and provision of basic supplies for families<\/li><li><strong>Care for the displaced supported by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic eparchies and exarchates<\/strong> of Chernivtsi, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Buchach, Kamjanets-Podilskiy, Sokal-Zhovkva, Ternopil-Zboriv, Transcarpathia, the Basilian Sisters and the Basilian Monastery of St. Joseph near Lviv <\/li><li>Coordinating aid through the <strong>Ukrainian Catholic University<\/strong> in Lviv for support of the Lviv Children&#8217;s Hospital and 68 special needs children; medical supplies for remote villages and dispensaries; emergency food packages; and physical and psychological rehabilitation for those devastated by the war<\/li><li>Emergency palliative care for patients at Lviv\u2019s Sheptytsky Hospital; assistance to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic military chaplaincy for medical equipment; and <strong>Medical supplies<\/strong> for the Children\u2019s Hospital in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The $5 million CAD also includes the support provided by <strong>CNEWA Canada to its partners on the ground <\/strong>in late January. With the start of full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, these partners immediately reallocated CNEWA funds to the emergency support which included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Supplying the soup kitchen in <strong>Mariupol<\/strong><\/li><li>Funding activities to host families in the <strong>Eparchy of Chernivtsi<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li><li>Supporting relief efforts of <strong>Caritas in Ternopil<\/strong><\/li><li>Hosting families in welcome centres of <strong>Caritas in Zhytomyr<\/strong><\/li><li>Helping families cope with loss of children in <strong>Zaporizhzhia<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The needs are growing daily, and CNEWA will continue to support Ukraine in its immediate relief needs, which includes funds for food, medical supplies, clothing, shelter&nbsp;and the support of the critical structures of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNEWA as a whole agency is also providing help to Ukrainian refugees outside of Ukraine. <a href=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/more-than-1-million-in-aid-to-ukraine\/\">Please click here to find out more.<\/a>  At the moment, CNEWA Canada&#8217;s efforts are focused on helping the displaced people in need within Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/BB2_5819-copy-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12992\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/BB2_5819-copy-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/BB2_5819-copy-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/BB2_5819-copy-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/BB2_5819-copy.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Volunteers of Caritas Odesa welcome people fleeing from occupation in eastern and southern Ukraine at the Odesa train station (photo: Caritas Odesa)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Long-term needs have yet to be assessed as the situation in Ukraine is very much active with no resolution in sight.
