The Armenian government reported more than&nbsp;100,000 refugees&nbsp;have poured into Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh as of&nbsp;1 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a genocide,\u201d said Patriarch Minassian during the episode. \u201cThey are forced to leave their homeland. They were forced to empty their houses and their homes and go away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thank all the supporters and all the people that they are thinking about the Armenians in this case of Nagorno-Karabakh. But unfortunately, Nagorno-Karabakh doesn\u2019t exist anymore,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archbishop Bettencourt issued a \u201cvery urgent and very heartfelt appeal\u201d on behalf of the Holy See \u201cto silence the arms, to meet the humanitarian situation of these 120,000 real people, respect the human rights, call to dialogue and transparency, respect international law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd we urge very actively the full involvement of the international community in this process,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael J.L. La Civita, director of communications for CNEWA, said CNEWA\u2019s work in Armenia goes back nearly a century. The Armenian Genocide was the driving force behind CNEWA\u2019s founding, he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of the agency\u2019s work in Armenia since the 1980s has been in partnership with Caritas Armenia and the Armenian Catholic Ordinariate. CNEWA works closely with Caritas in responding to the needs of refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople are fleeing their homeland, Artsakh, Nagorno-Karabakh,\u201d said Anahit Gevorgyan, programs manager for Caritas Armenia. \u201cMaybe for many this is the third time that they are leaving their homes, their country and, unfortunately, as of today, we know that they are leaving it for good.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the number of refugees in urgent need in Armenia increasing by the day, Ms. Gevorgyan said \u201cCaritas Armenia is ready to provide these people with shelter, with livelihood support, with urgent humanitarian support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, we are asking you for your financial support to provide urgent assistance of food, medicine and shelter,\u201d said Deirdre O\u2019Brien, director of development for CNEWA. \u201cOur goal is to raise $100,000.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Msgr. Vaccari asked for prayers, the dissemination of true information on the crisis and donations to CNEWA\u2019s emergency response in Armenia.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is not something that can remain silent,\u201d he said. \u201cWe ask everyone within their means to please donate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cnewa.org\/ca\/what-we-do\/armenia\/\"><em>Support CNEWA\u2019s response in assisting refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh in Armenia.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In response to the escalating refugee crisis in Armenia, Msgr.
