Kateryna Dolhova believes that family is the only institution that can preserve a child\u2019s dignity and give them strength.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Dolhova currently has nine foster children, but she has fostered many more, some of whom are now adults with families of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She receives support from the Orphan Care Center in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archeparchy<\/a> of Lviv; its staff offers pastoral care as well as caregiver and material support.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brother Andriy Kharkiv, chaplain with the Orphan Care Center, says paid and volunteer staffers work with about 20 family-type children\u2019s homes and foster families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe try to visit these children several times a week,\u201d he says. Some of the children have parents in the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He says that when he was their age, he prayed \u201cfor a dog, for good weather, for friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen you come to them and pray with them \u2014 in church or at home \u2014 you see what they pray for,\u201d he says. \u201cThey pray for the soldiers, about the war, for victory, and constantly for missiles not to fly.\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
