Ottawa, Ontario<\/strong> \u2014 Canadian donations to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association in support of the Syria Emergency Relief Fund government matching program have resulted in total funds raised of $925,051 for Syria and neighbouring regions. In 2015, CNEWA Canada received a total of $1,522,177 in donations to help those in need affected by the Syrian civil war.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to thank Canadians for their generosity in helping us to support those in the Middle East who are still searching for hope amidst the turmoil that has changed their lives forever,\u201d says Carl H\u00e9tu, Canadian National Director of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. \u201cThese funds will go a long way towards improving the quality of life of our brothers and sisters in need of support.\u201d<\/p>\n

The donations were divided into four main categories to help those in need in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. The money raised has provided and will continue to be used for emergency supplies such as necessities for babies, food, water, heaters, clothing and blankets. It will also help with education as children have often missed up to three years of schooling; healthcare to assist with conditions such as depression, cancer, stroke, heart issues and diabetes, along with spiritual support such as catechetical programs for Christian families.<\/p>\n

Canadians interested in making donations to help CNEWA and its partners in the Middle East or other areas like Ukraine where the organization operates are invited to do so by visiting www.cnewa.ca<\/a> or to write a cheque to CNEWA Canada at 1247 Kilborn Place, Ottawa, Ontario, K1H 6K9 or by phone at 1-866-322-4441. As a registered charity, CNEWA will issue a tax receipt.<\/p>\n
