CWL currently supports two projects in the Holy Land in cooperation with CNEWA: The Shepherd’s Field Hospital in Beit Sahour near Bethlehem in the West Bank, and the Infant Welfare Centre located in the Old City of Jerusalem.
An update from Joseph Hazboun, Regional Director of the CNEWA Jerusalem
Shepherd’s Field Hospital
Your continual support gives essential health care to pregnant women in need, and monitors the health and development of more than 100 babies each year. This is done by providing blood tests and important supplements such as iron and Vitamin D, and essential maternal health care for very poor families. The hospital also provides health education and consultation for these mothers, post-birth.
“I was overwhelmed with feelings of fear and anxiety but with the help of the medical staff here, I felt comfortable as if I were at home, my second home. The nurses, midwives, and doctor were very good. They also guided me on what I needed to do in the first three months after birth.” – Helen Rafael, Patient, Beit Sahour Cooperative Society for Health Welfare
Infant Welfare Center
The Infant Welfare Centre was closed for a year and a half due to severe restrictions and three lockdowns in Jerusalem, which had a negative effect on children’s well-being. The staff adapted and found ways to improve the mental health of children and their parents, which included workshops for parents with a counsellor and hands-on activities for kids, like cooking, science experiments, and more. The Centre also resumed its remedial education programs, focusing on academic support for teens.
“The programs provides really vital support for these young families that are struggling to remain steadfast in the home of their ancestors, in their home which is the Holy Land where Jesus was born. And this is the important service that we are providing thanks to the finance and support of the CWL.” – Joseph Hazboun, Regional Director of the CNEWA Jerusalem Field Office
