Lent is not merely a season of penance and sacrifice; it is also a season of grace, renewal and spiritual growth! CNEWA invites you, during this Lent of the Jubilee Year 2025, to reflect on the profound opportunity this time offers to deepen our relationship with God. By engaging more intentionally in prayer, fasting and almsgiving, we can make this Lenten journey a transformative experience.
Jesus Christ, the ultimate example of sacrifice love, is on our minds in this season of the Church. We reflect on His 40 days in the desert, during which he fasted and prayed before his ultimate sacrifice.
Sacrificial love takes on a whole new meaning when you look at it in the context of those CNEWA supports in Ethiopia. From schools in the heart of the country to clinics run by nuns to a tribe that would have been otherwise hidden from civilization and the Gospel. Our partners on the ground in Ethiopia and those who serve the Church have seen first-hand the beauty and depth of sacrifice for the greater mission of the Church and for the well-being of those who are vulnerable. We invite you, this Lenten season, to offer a sacrificial gift to support CNEWA’s life saving work in Ethiopia.
In his 2025 Lenten Message, our Holy Father Pope Francis remarked:
“God is asking us to examine whether in our lives, in our families, in the places we work and spend our time, we are capable of walking together with others, listening to them, resisting the temptation to become self-absorbed and to think only of our own needs.”
Giving alms, a core tenet of our shared Christian faith, is a tangible expression of our love for God and our neighbor. This Lent, we invite you to discern how you can share your time, talent and treasure more generously. Let us work and pray for justice and peace in our hearts, our families, our communities and in our world, and let us work and pray for an end to division, violence and war.
Join CNEWA, with your generous prayers and gifts, as we serve as instruments of love and support for those in greatest need throughout the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India and Eastern Europe.
