“A historical day for CNEWA Canada and Ukraine” Entire Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church visits CNEWA Canada’s office.
To continue this week with “Historical events” for Ukraine + Canada, the CNEWA Canada office had the immense pleasure of welcoming His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, as well as the entire Permanent Synod of Bishops.
Archbishop Emeritus of Ottawa-Cornwall, Terrence Prendergast, began with prayer in the chapel of St. Paul’s University, expressing our team’s gratitude for their visit and presence among us. With great joy, Dr. Adriana Bara, CNEWA Canada’s National Director, spent time highlighting a number of our projects throughout the world and especially in Ukraine. She was joined by CNEWA’s Ukraine Program Officer Anna Dombrovska.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk gave a heartfelt speech to our staff that we are honoured to pass along to our benefactors and donors. In his remarks, he noted our commitment to the Ukrainian seminarian program and our tireless work on the ground by helping to save those affected by the horrific attacks on Ukraine. More than that, we’ve provided food boxes and psychological support for Ukrainians, especially children.

His Beatitude also expressed his hope to finish rebuilding the Theological Seminary of the Three Holy Hierarchs in Kyiv, as this is where they can continue to nurture the future of the Church in Ukraine.
CNEWA shares this hope and invites you to consider honouring His Beatitude’s desire by offering a gift to make this possible.
We leave you with a call for prayer from His Beatitude:
“Prayer is not a magic formula. It’s a space of healing and one of divine dialogue. Please pray for us.”
Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church
