Update on Ukraine’s Flooding Emergency

More than a year ago, flash flooding submerged more than 300 towns and villages in Western Ukraine. With generous help from our donors as well as Ukrainian Catholic eparchies and organizations in Canada, CNEWA has been able to provide over CA $60,000 worth of vital support to people who suffered from the flooding.

It takes time to repair the damage caused by water levels rising to 3 metres high. But in 2020, timely help came to deliver essentials such as fresh water and food; and much-needed restoration was provided at a later stage which included furniture, renovation supplies and household appliances. 326 households in need received essential supplies and spiritual support from volunteers and employees of Caritas Chernivtsi, Kolomyya and Ivano-Frankivsk.

May God bless the generous hearts of donors for your support!

This family from the Lanchyn village near Kolomyya in Western Ukraine could not afford to completely restore their house devastated by flooding in June 2020. Both parents lost jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The government subsidy was enough to cover only cosmetic repairs. Caritas Kolomyya supplied them with basic necessities and a new kitchen set.
