On this first Anniversary of the conflict in Gaza last October, we call to mind the many people who are suffering amidst heartbreaking turmoil and fighting.
Sadly, the region has been plunged into another vortex of violence and hatred never seen or experienced before. The intensity and impact of the tragedies we have witnessed in the past 12 months have deeply lacerated our conscience and our sense of humanity to do everything in our power to comfort the sick, dying and afflicted.
We have done so, with your generosity and help. No matter one’s condition, circumstance or creed, CNEWA Canada has come to the aid of thousands of women, men and children by offering much needed shelter and assistance.
Today and in a special way, we have joined with the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem in observing a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving – all with hope in our hearts that there will be lasting peace in the Middle East.
Using the words of St. Francis of Assisi from whose thoughts here have become a renowned call for peace in the Christian tradition, please join us in praying,
