The delegation of the Patriarchal Curia of the Ukrainian Catholic Church met with CNEWA staff on October 9, 2025, to share experience of enduring and finding hope on the 3rd year of Russian military aggression.
The Patriarchal Curia has been CNEWA’s a key partner on the ground in Ukraine since the founding of its Ukraine Program 20 years ago. Together we have been working on re-establishing the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church after it emerged from the soviet oppression and on the development of the Church’s strong social support of Ukrainians.
In 2022 when Russia decided to invade Ukraine openly and completely, Patriarchal foundation Mudra Sprava led by Fr. Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, played a pivotal role in providing essential supplies and shelter to people living near the frontline. Since 2022 CNEWA has helped Mudra Sprava to supply 82,070 food boxes to 164,140 people in need.

“Projects like Food Boxes through which you can serve people and pray with them give me hope in times of war”, says Fr. Lyubomyr. He also compared Ukraine’s giving up fighting to African Americans’ going back to slavery. “Would they agree to give up the freedom and equality they have been fighting for so long? No. So won’t Ukraine”. Natalia and Iryna who work in Patriarchal Curia offices in Kyiv and L’viv also shared first-hand experiences of work perseverance. “Whether night shelling deprives us from sleep or not, we have to get things done”, says Iryna Havryshkevych Head of the Department of Charitable Projects.
As we pray for the war in Ukraine to end, millions of people are still in a desperate need of support. In 2026 CNEWA and the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC would like to help prepare 600 priests to support the victims of war in Ukraine and provide group rehabilitation sessions for 90 members of military families.
The work that Ukrainian Catholic Church does, in part with the support of CNEWA and through your donations, is nothing short of lifesaving. Your prayers and generous gifts to those who are the most vulnerable in our world do not go unnoticed. We encourage you to continue to keep in your prayers, especially in this season of such strife and uncertainty in our world, all the people of Caritas Ukraine in partnership with CNEWA, who work tirelessly to uphold the dignity of human life, and aid those most in need.
Please consider a gift to help continue this lifesaving work.
