Msgr. Peter I. Vaccari, CNEWA president, has issued an invitation to an interactive briefing on the agency’s work in Gaza and the current situation on the ground Wednesday, 10 September, at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
Updates will be provided by Mr. Joseph Hazboun, regional director of CNEWA-Pontifical Mission for Palestine and Israel, based in Jerusalem. Mr. Hazboun has been a vital part of CNEWA’s international team since 1993. During his time, he has formulated strategic responses and programs to support the current needs and challenges facing the Palestinian community as part of the agency’s mission. He has great expertise working on the front lines of numerous crises in the region.
The online briefing will share firsthand information from those living through this crisis. The conversation will address the present and future needs of the people in Gaza and how CNEWA-Pontifical Misson is responding.
As Gaza continues to grapple with severe humanitarian needs, this briefing offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from someone who is living and working in the heart of the disaster.

More about Joseph Hazboun:
Joseph Hazboun was born and raised in Bethlehem and is a graduate of Terra Santa School. He pursued higher education in theology, earning his degree in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome. In addition, he holds a diploma in project management from Bethlehem University, alongside specialized training in monitoring and evaluation, fundraising and strategic planning.
He earned an intermediate degree in translation from Cambridge International College of Canada and has translated six books from Italian and English into Arabic. He is fluent in five languages: Arabic, English, Italian, Hebrew and French.
Mr. Hazboun began his career at Terra Santa School in Bethlehem as an administrative assistant and freelance music teacher. He joined CNEWA-Pontifical Mission in 1993 and was appointed regional director in 2017.
As regional director, Mr. Hazboun plays a vital role that addresses the pressing needs of the Palestinian community, grounded in strong partnerships with numerous local civil and church institutions.
