The Oasis Center for Counseling and Formation has taken on the taboo in Egyptian society against speaking about physical and sexual abuse by raising awareness about its prevalence, educating communities about the dignity of the human person and serving as a lifeline for survivors of abuse and human trafficking.
The center, situated in Upper Egypt, is equipped with a staff of therapists, educators and social workers, and offers a range of services, including psychological counseling.
“I came to the Oasis, and they welcomed me in the best way, with so much love, with the best treatment,” said an abuse survivor who was directed to the Center by her local priest.
The center’s programs for children are designed to help them “grow and develop self-confidence … and at the same time teaches them how they can protect themselves,” said the Reverend Makarios Isaac, the center’s founder.
