Annual meeting of Bishops in the Holy Land The President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), the Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton, will represent the CCCB at an annual meeting in the Holy Land, January 7-12, 2012. He will be accompanied by Mr. Carl Hétu, National Secretary of thGe Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) Canada.
The International Coordination of Episcopal Conferences in Support of the Church in the Holy Land began in Jerusalem in 1998 at the request of the Holy See. It involves representatives from Conferences of Bishops in Europe and North America who also meet with the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land (AOCTS). During this meeting, the Bishops have the occasion to learn more about the present situation in the region and to show solidarity with the local Church. (Source CCCB)
