Christian emigration from the Middle East cannot be attributed to any one cause. Nor are Christians the only people in the region in search of a better life elsewhere. Below are reports generated on the phenomenon of Christian emigration from the Middle East by the regional directors of the Pontifical Mission, Catholic Near East Welfare Association’s (CNEWA) operating agency in the Middle East. The regional directors delivered their reports on 23 January 2002 at a gathering in Rome convened by the Holy See’s Congregation for the Eastern Churches.
