CNEWA supports a number of religious congregations and institutions in Egypt — helping to build of the body of Christ in an ancient land that dates back to the time of the apostles. It is a land, however, that has increasingly become a target for Christian persecution and even death. CNEWA, however, seeks to alleviate the suffering of those facing hardship and discrimination.
In addition to the Daughters of Charity, we support the Franciscan Sisters of the Cross, the Congregation of the Franciscan Fathers and the Coptic Sisters of Jesus and Mary, among others. And our involvement extends far and wide. Beyond helping with the formation of religious and priests, we support orphanages and educational facilities in some of the poorest slums. CNEWA is also helping to fund the renovation of a dispensary in Alexandria and the rehabilitation of a kitchen and dormitory for the Good Shepherd Sisters.
“We seek to be a beacon of light to Christians in Egypt,” CNEWA’s director of programs Thomas Varghese said.
