Ethiopia in Crisis

Once Africa’s poster child for progress, Ethiopia is in crisis having endured tribal conflict, civil unrest, drought and climate-related disasters.
Now, millions of innocent people are at risk.
CNEWA’s regional team in Addis Ababa continues to receive urgent pleas for help from local church leaders responding to a growing food crisis. More than 10 million people are facing serious food insecurity even as they recover from the devastating three-year drought that crippled agricultural production from 2020 to 2023.
Ethiopia’s churches are often the only lifeline for vulnerable families suffering from poverty, illness and displacement. The withdrawal of millions of dollars in foreign food assistance — including the elimination of both European and USAID-funded programs that once helped prevent starvation and disease — has left countless families in even greater danger. But CNEWA remains there, present and active, helping provide humanitarian aid and pastoral support these communities need to survive.
Your support helps sustain programs serving some of the country’s most vulnerable people, especially children and the sick.
From the Kidane Mehret Children’s Home, which cares for children affected by HIV and AIDS, to feeding programs in Tigray that provide nutritious meals to students and families impacted by drought and war, CNEWA is committed to protecting and empowering the next generation of Ethiopian children.
But now the crisis is worsening.
CNEWA alone cannot fill the enormous void left by the loss of worldwide, government-funded coordinated aid efforts. But together, through our worldwide fellowship of supporters, we can respond with compassion and action, making a concrete difference in the lives of as many as possible.
Working closely with local church and community partners, CNEWA is providing:
- Emergency food distribution
- Supplementary feeding programs for nursing children and mothers
- Rapid emergency response, including sanitation services and clean water
- Shelter, pastoral care and food assistance for displaced families
The local churches cannot do this alone. They need your help now. And we need yours.
Will you make a generous gift today to help your brothers and sisters in Christ facing hunger, displacement and uncertainty in Ethiopia?
