New Book Series on Eastern Catholic Theology to Launch in Rome

CNEWA will cosponsor an event in Rome on 31 March to launch the first volume in a new series on contemporary Eastern Catholic theology, titled “Eastern Catholic Theology in Action: Essays in Liturgy, Ecclesiology and Ecumenism.”

CNEWA will cosponsor a public event in Rome this month to launch the first volume in a new series on contemporary Eastern Catholic theology.

Eastern Catholic Theology in Action: Essays in Liturgy, Ecclesiology and Ecumenism,co-edited by Deacon Cyril Kennedy and the Reverend Andrew J. Summerson, is the first in the series, “Eastern Catholic Studies and Texts,” by The Catholic University of America Press.

The launch of this volume, dedicated to the Byzantine tradition, will be held at the Pontifical Oriental Institute on 31 March at 4 p.m. in Rome/10 a.m. Eastern. Subsequent volumes in the series will be dedicated to other Eastern Catholic traditions.

The Pontifical Oriental Institute and the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies of the University of St. Michael’s College, at the University of Toronto, organized the event, which will include a dialogue between scholars and Eastern Catholic church leaders, including from the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.

The geopolitical situation has led to significant migration of Eastern Christians from the Middle East and Eastern Europe, creating the need for greater pastoral care for Eastern Catholics in western Europe and North America.

This event will be an opportunity to reflect on the current challenges migration poses on the church and the affected Eastern Christian communities, as well as on the experiences of Eastern Christian communities established for over a century in North America and the valuable insights they can offer in addressing the challenges of new diasporas.
