Most of Egypt’s eight-million-strong Christians — called Copts — belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church. Only a handful — about 175,000 or so — is Catholic. Despite their small numbers, Coptic Catholics make a big impression in their communities through dynamic, inclusive institutions that serve the people of Egypt on the basis of need rather than creed.
Since our founding 90 years ago, CNEWA has worked to accompany the Copts of Egypt through parishes, local church institutions and the men and women religious who provide loving care to the people most in need.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, CNEWA supports a number of social service activities of the Coptic Catholic Church in Izbet Chokor, including the renovation of housing, helping the parish to operate its clinic with equipment, and providing support to the vocational training workshop. All these works strengthen community and promote interreligious harmony.
