Video: When a Teen Cannot Get Treatment

Youssef Humaid, 15, has health issues and needs treatment not available in Gaza. What does his family do in the meantime?

When the family of Youssef Humaid was displaced from Gaza to Rafah, they had no way to transport the 15-year-old with curvature of the spine and severe bone deformities.

So, they put him in a shopping cart to move him. And during that move, just weeks after one of his surgeries, he fell.

“Things have gotten worse, and I don’t know what to do,” said his mother, Khitam Humaid.

Youssef needs treatment that he cannot get in Gaza, but Israeli authorities are limiting who can leave.

“Every year, the World Health Organization calls us and gives us hope that Youssef will travel for treatment in a month or two,” said Mrs. Humaid. “But unfortunately, it has never happened.”
