Wounded Ukrainian Soldier Comforted by Trust in God

Roman Dudko, a Ukrainian soldier, was injured in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, marking its second anniversary this month. In the video below, hear about how his experience on the front led him to reevaluate his values and his relationship with God.

As the second anniversary of the war between Russia and Ukraine approaches on 24 February, the faces and stories of those on the front line are important reminders of the reality of war, but also that faith and hope persevere in the darkest times.

Roman Dudko is among the hundreds of Ukrainian men and women who have been injured in the ongoing war.

Mr. Dudko had enlisted to serve in Ukraine’s military one month after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. He was injured on the last day of his rotation in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, when his unit was hit by heavy shelling. He was recuperating in the hospital when he spoke to ONE about how his experience on the front led him to reevaluate his values and his relationship with God.

“Before the war, I was convinced that a person forges their own destiny … Such were my beliefs. Always. But now they have changed radically,” he said. “When you let go of a situation and ask God for his help, everything turns out well.”

“God does exist,” he said. “He always helps.”
