Lebanese who have missed medical treatments because their health care centers were destroyed or are being bombed have found help at Sacred Heart Hospital in Baabda, about 6 miles east of Beirut.
Some come for injuries; at least 17 sought regular treatment, like dialysis, for chronic conditions.
“We contacted the hospital here, and they told us to come,” said patient Mohammad Ayach. “They took my information, and on the same day they gave me a dialysis session right away because I had already gone a week without dialysis.
“May God bless them,” he added. “If it weren’t for them, I would still be searching for a hospital that could receive me.”
Sister Lamia Tamer, a member of the Daughters of Charity, who run the hospital, said they received so many extra patients that they added a third shift. They also received additional help from medical personnel who could not go to work because their hospitals were being bombed.
