Make Your Lenten Sacrifice

Lent is not merely a season of penance and sacrifice; it is also a season of grace, renewal and spiritual growth! CNEWA invites you, during this Lent of the Jubilee Year 2025, to reflect on the profound opportunity this time offers to deepen our relationship with God.  By engaging more intentionally in prayer, fasting and almsgiving, we can make this Lenten journey a transformative experience.

Giving alms, a core tenet of our shared Christian faith, is a tangible expression of our love for God and our neighbor. This Lent, we invite you to discern how you can share your time, talent and treasure more generously. Let us work and pray for justice and peace in our hearts, our families, our communities and in our world, and let us work and pray for an end to division, violence and war.

Join CNEWA, with your generous prayers and gifts, as we serve as instruments of love and support for those in greatest need throughout the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India and Eastern Europe.

We also invite you to accompany us on this Lenten journey with this special book of prayers drawn from the Book of Lamentations, composed by the Armenian poet St. Gregory of Narek, as an inspirational gift to help you strengthen your relationship with the Lord during this Lenten season. Since its inception, CNEWA has worked closely with the Armenian churches — particularly in the Middle East and, since the great earthquake in December 1988, in the Armenian heartland perched in the Caucasus Mountains — to alleviate poverty in body, mind and spirit.

Based on CNEWA’s century-old relationship with the Armenian church, we hope that these beautiful prayers, written over 800 years ago, will help you deepen your prayer life and serve as a reminder of the strength of fortitude in faith and the power of love of Jesus and his church. May the words and images in this book offer inspiration, consolation and hope, as they have for countless Christians over the centuries!
